Youth Hostels in Florence in general

I was a tourist in Florence in this August. It was really HOT! I called up 'Istituto Gould' hostel in the afternoon and the voice from the other side told me that they have a room available. They do not take reservation over the phone. I arrived at the door step of Istituto Gould at 8:00 pm, and no one answer. There is no resting place or reception counter. And then a girl was about to open the door with her key. I asked,"is this a hostel?". She said 'yes, but i guess the manager is gone for the day!' wow, I was so disappointed! It was written on the guide book as a fantastic place to stay! I was carrying so many luggages and is getting pretty worried. Then I ...
