Advantages: Cheap, convenient, good for meeting people

Disadvantages: Not somewhere you'd want to spend too long!

I stayed in a youth hostel in Prague called the Golden Sickle a couple of years ago and it was definitely an experience! The location was very good, just off Wenceslas Square in the centre - though sometimes late at night it seemed dodgy enough walking down the dimly lit road to get to it with a few peculiar characters lurking about! When we arrived we went upstairs to the 'reception/tv area where we were greeted by a group of guys over on a stag weekend and a very stoned looking guy on reception who gave us our keys and didn't seem to really know what was going on around him as he continued drinking his beer!

We were shown to the dorm which slept about 12 but was spacious enough though you had to walk through another dorm of about 12 people to get to ours! All of the beds were bunk beds apart from one ricketly looking camp bed in the corner of the room which my mate drew the short straw for! The stag party proceeded to tell us a few stories about what had gone on the night before which kind of put us off sleeping in some of the beds but thankfully we were out most of the day and night and weren't planning on hanging around the hostel too much! The showers could have been slightly cleaner too!

The hostel was very popular with Americans and Canadians and was always very busy. It was good that it had no curfew but the door was locked at a certain time so you had to buzz whoever was on reception to let you in. There was a small kitchen area where you could make your own breakfast and a computer with free internet access.

For less than £10 per night I couldn't really complain about the hostel as it did the job. Im sure there was much better to stay in but it actually turned out to be good fun and was one of the best hostels i've stayed in in terms of getting to meet other travellers. I would probably recommend this hostel to young people travelling who want to get to meet other travellers but if that's not your thing or if you are more fond of your home comforts you can probably find a lot better for a bit more money! It was fun for me at the time but I doubt i'll be back!

Summary: Good fun for travellers and convenient

True enough...it was a very comfortable hostel on the whole

I thought this was a good review but you didn't mention how comfortable the hostel was...that would be the most important thing for me when choosing where to stay.
