YHA Buttermere:
... Youth Hostel, between Buttermere and Crummockwater is situated in one of the most spectacular locations in the Lake District, in my opinion. It s surrounded by majestic peaks, amazing scenery and close to Haystacks, the resting place of Alfred Wainwright. Because it s in such a remote location, however, driving to it can be a challenge especially in winter. You have two main options. From Keswick, you c... YHA Borrowdale ... you re heading to Borrowdale Youth Hostel on foot, you could be doing Wainwright s Coast to Coast footpath, or the Cumbria Way. Either way, it s highly likely that you ll also be very wet, as this hostel in Longthwaite, is a mere stone s throw away from Seathwaite which happens to be the wettest inhabited place in the British Isles with an average of 3,300 mm - that s 130 inches in old money - of cold, wet rain that s invariably horizontal! But panic ye not, because, if indeed you are drenched to your undies, this hostel has everything that the weather beaten-traveller needs! ===Car Parking=== The building is a long cedarwood cabin set in beautiful gardens wi... YHA Helvellyn ... you want a mountain in your back garden then Helvellyn Youth Hostel is a must. Located 900ft up the Helvellyn range, you re already a third of the way up to the top, well, almost - Helvellyn is 3117ft actually and the third highest mountain in England. Three quarters of a mile up a narrow track from the town of Glenridding, Helvellyn hostel is perfectly located for serious walkers to enjoy mountain top views that stretch to the Isle of Man, when the weather is crystal clear, that is. You can also take a leisurely stroll, in breathtaking surroundings, down to the town and enjoy a cruise on Ullswater, passing the Travellers Rest pub, of course, on your steady (but uph... YHA Malham ... YHA, is perfectly placed in the Yorkshire Dales to explore the glorious surrounding countryside whilst still being at the heart- right next to the pub, in fact - of a picture-postcard village. As it s on the Pennine Way, many a weary foot has crossed its threshold. It was designed by John Dower, one of the most important names in the quest to establish National Parks in Britain. Malham YHA is a purpose-built Youth Hostel made up of two buildings. One has the self-catering, members kitchen, accommodation, showers and toilets and the other houses reception, the dining room, a quiet reading room, a TV and games room, more bedrooms, showers and toilets. There s... Read the full review: Walk this way - to Malham YHA by apuskiduski |
